Getting into the school academically isn't the challenging part (anyone with a 2000 SAT can get into the school), but the extracurriculars is what they want to see. As a drama major, I performed in every drama play at my high school, sung in choir, did National Honor Society, did charity work with my church and I've gone to summer programs for acting. These people want to see passion.

I studied and I wrote a pretty good essay. If you are dead set on coming here, don't let the academics scare you. If NYU is one of the schools that you are considering, I would advise you to think twice, but write a good essay and you are golden.

The "hardest" part about getting into nyu is the number of applicants. If it weren't so high, it wouldn't be so difficult. The average GPA here seems to be lower than many "lower ranked" universities (that many would consider to be better than NYU anyway).
It also depends highly on which school you are applying to. Stern is competitive. CAS average. Steinhardt seems to accept 100% of its applicants. Tisch, I don't know. If you apply to Gallatin, make sure your made up major is as pretentious and ridiculous as possible.
